From Lansdale to Pottstown, Doors are Opening

Partnerships and deep collaboration were at the heart of two major housing milestones this month in Montgomery County.

On Friday in Lansdale, officials unveiled Todi’s Place of Hope with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and open house. The 20-bed supportive housing community at North Wales Road and E. Main Street will operate year-round beginning Feb. 23, thanks to a contract between Montgomery County and RHD. Lansdale Borough was credited for being a willing partner, which should not be taken for granted when other municipalities in MontCo recoiled from the notion of having housing for the homeless within their boundaries.

This agreement was first announced in December 2024

County Commissioner Jamila Winder remarked that Todi’s Place marks the fulfillment of a promise that “every one of our friends and neighbors deserves the basic dignity of shelter, warmth, and a chance to get back on their feet.”

Lansdale Council President Meg Currie Teoh added, “These people are not problems or just statistics. They are human beings and they are our neighbors,” (noting that her child attends school a half mile down the street from this site).

Currie Teoh, along with several other members of borough council, Mayor Rachael Bollens, and Borough Manager Jon Ernst attended our policy forum last week in Lansdale. The goal of the event was to forge connections between local elected officials in Montgomery County, while offering specific policy prescriptions to help boost workforce housing supply in our communities.

Collaboration and partnerships are at the heart of that work, too.

Meanwhile in my hometown of Pottstown, Habitat for Humanity is making an impact on the affordable homeownership front with 0% interest loans on renovated properties.

The new owners met income requirements, closing costs, and more. Borough and county officials, including Mayor Stephanie Henrick, were on-hand for the Feb. 12 ribbon cutting on Cherry Street.

Momentum is building.
